Note

It has been warned that algorithms might have undesired effects on societies, fostering, for instance, the polarization of political opinions, the spreading of fake news, and the influence of foreign powers on democratic elections.

In this seminar, we will analyze these warning and research testing them. In addition, we will focus on the question how undesired effects of algorithms can be prevented. How should users react? Should governments intervene? Are companies like Facebook and Google responsible?
