Basis
The orientation examination was introduced in order to be able to determine at the earliest possible stage of the degree course if a wrong decision was made when choosing the degree course.
The examination regulations of the Bachelor's degree programs in Business Administration and Economics stipulate that the orientation examination is completed at the end of the second semester. The module handbook and SPO of the respective Bachelor's degree programs in Business Administration and Economics indicate which examinations in the degree program count towards the orientation examination. The courses/examinations concerned are selected in such a way that the first attempt can be completed within the first two semesters and any necessary repeat examination can be completed in the third semester at the latest. Students who have not completed the orientation examination, including any resits, by the end of the 3rd semester at the latest lose their right to take the examination.
However, the Examination Board may decide to extend the deadline for providing proof of the orientation examination upon application by affected students and conditionally restore the right to take the examination.
Procedure for requesting an extension:
Procedure:
If the information on this page is sufficient, the application can be prepared immediately and submitted as shown below. However, if there is still a need for clarification or special aspects play a role that are not covered by the information here, a telephone consultation appointment can be arranged. This can be done via an online reservation during the personal consultation hours at the Examinations Office. It is assumed that you are familiar with the information on this page.
Form and submission of the application
The application is
- in the form of a letter (with the usual sender details)
- submitted via the Examinations Office (until further notice, we recommend: as a PDF attachment in an e-mail, also possible: by post or by direct deposit in the mailbox in the PS-WiWi building)
- and will be submitted to the Examination Board for a decision.
Structure / content of the application
In the address field "To the Examination Board [your degree program]", in the subject line: "Application for an extension of the deadline for graduation for the x. semester". semester"
At the beginning of the application, briefly mention whether a counseling interview was held and when it took place. Or explicitly that it was waived because the information on this page was sufficient.
Then it goes straight on to the content: Which exams are still missing to complete the orientation exam and when is the plan to complete the orientation exam.
Next, go into the reasons why you think the orientation exam could not be completed on time.
Reasons such as impairment of health at a relevant time must be documented with a medical certificate. Otherwise, consideration is not guaranteed. A certificate of incapacity for work is not sufficient. However. If a certificate is not immediately available, the application can initially be submitted without it. This allows time for processing. If the examination board deems a reason to be relevant and there is no supporting document, we will contact you before making a decision.
Processing time
The decision of the Examination Board on the application for an extension of the deadline for the orientation examination will be sent to the applicant in writing within the next 4 weeks after submission, as a PDF attachment in an e-mail. It cannot be ruled out that the processing time will extend beyond the re-registration deadline for the semester applied for and that re-registration will not initially be possible. In the event of approval, re-registration will be possible at a later date. It is important that you contact SLE/Studierendenservice and transfer the re-registration amount (keyword "Verwendungszweck").
Please note:
It is not advisable to submit the application once the deadline for providing proof of the orientation examination has expired. It often becomes apparent in the second or third semester at the latest that it will not be possible to complete the degree in time. The application should then be submitted in the third semester.
- Application (letter form), attachments if necessary (e.g. medical certificate),
- Grade transcript (always with all details: passed, failed, registered)
Notification: in writing as a PDF attachment in an email
