Bachelor thesis at another faculty

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the Industrial Engineering and Management and Technical Economics degree programs, Bachelor's thesis topics offered by institutes of other KIT faculties may also be of interest to students of these degree programs.

(Note: Theses that are written in cooperation with a company are not considered external under examination law. The same regulations for supervision apply as for other theses. This means that the examiner and, if applicable, the co-supervisor must be authorized to conduct examinations at KIT).

The study and examination regulations (SPO) expressly allow the possibility of supervision by an examiner from another KIT faculty, but require approval by the examination board.

Against this background, the following should be noted:

  • The preparation of a Bachelor's thesis at another faculty of KIT must generally be applied for via the Examination Board of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics.
  • At least the second supervision must be carried out by an examiner (professor or private lecturer) of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics.

Application

The application for supervision of the thesis at another faculty of the KIT is submitted with the application form for admission to the thesis. (A separate application is not required.)
Submission: Examination office of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics
Processing time: 3-4 days

Special cases

Different regulations apply for some faculties and institutes.

  1. Bachelor's thesis at the Faculty of Computer Science: The topic must be agreed with the AIFB in advance. If approved by the AIFB, initial supervision is always the responsibility of the AIFB. The thesis no longer has to be approved by the examination board.
  2. Bachelor thesis at the IMI (Prof. Ovtcharova): The co-supervision may only be carried out by an AIFB examiner.
  3. Approval-free first supervision, no second supervision obligation within the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics: At some institutes outside the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics, there is no approval requirement for supervising the Bachelor's thesis. There is also no principle here that at least the second supervision must be within the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics. This applies in particular to:
    • wbk (Prof. Fleischer, Prof. Lanza, Prof. Schulze),
    • IFL (Prof. Furmans),
    • Legal Institutes (Prof. Dreier, Prof. Sydow, Prof. Knöfel).
